International Travel FAQs

Does Frontier fly International?
Frontier flies to great destinations in Mexico and Costa Rica. View our route map to see where we can take you. Do note that some of our International routes operate seasonally, so be sure to check our seasonal service updates for Mexico and Costa Rica.

Are passports required for International travel?
Yes, all travelers leaving or entering the United States and Mexico or Costa Rica are required to present a valid passport.

Are there additional taxes when departing Mexico or Costa Rica?
For travel to some countries, additional airport, transportation, embarkation, security, and passenger service taxes/surcharges will apply depending on destination. For return travel from some countries, fares do not include airport and/or departure taxes, which may be collected by the foreign government.

How many bags can I take to Costa Rica?
Baggage allowances and fees vary based on the type of Fare Option that you purchase. Our Classic and Classic Plus fares both include two free bags; excess items will be charged a fee.  Our Economy fares do not include free bags.   Click here to see a fee chart for baggage.

Keep in mind those items must weigh under 50 lbs and must be under 62 linear inches (height + width + depth) or overweight and oversize charges may apply.

I'm going to Costa Rica for a while and don't know when I'm returning, how can I prove "return or onward travel?"
Buy a Classic Plus ticket. There are no fees to change it if your return dates change (although there may be a difference in the basic fare price) and it is fully refundable if you find a better deal while you are in Costa Rica.
