PASSENGER TRAVEL FAQS

What time should I check in for my flight?
We don't want to see you rushed, so we recommend that you get to the airport at least two hours before your flight. With increased security, it just makes sense. We can never guarantee how long your wait will be at the airport. It depends on so many factors, including weather, time of day, day of the week, etc.

The real rehearsed answer, however, is that for domestic flights (within the U.S.) you'll need to be checked in no less than 45 minutes prior to departure. For international flights all passengers have to be checked in no less than one hour before departure.

Do you accommodate passengers with disabilities or who are otherwise with special needs?
We take special care to make sure our passengers with special needs are taken care of. We have a comprehensive section devoted to special needs passengers, and we invite you to look through it. In the mean time, the official answer is as follows:

We're guided by the requirements issued by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) regulation 14 C.F.R. Part 382; and we must make sure the carriage of such passengers doesn't impair the safety of the flight or violate Federal Aviation regulations. We'll gladly accommodate passengers with special needs whenever possible. We can't provide certain extensive inflight services such as feeding assistance, assistance with lavatory functions, or provision of medical services. In some circumstances, we might require a passenger with special needs be accompanied when...

  • ...the passenger, because of a mental disability, is unable to comprehend or respond appropriately to safety instructions from our employees, including the required safety briefing
  • ...the passenger has a mobility impairment so severe that he or she is unable to assist in his or her own evacuation of the aircraft
  • ...the passenger has both severe hearing and vision impairments, to the point that it prevents our employees from adequately communicating the required safety briefing.

How should I handle traveling with a wheelchair?
We'll accept one passenger's wheelchair in the cabin on Airbus aircraft in a priority stowage space on a first-come, first-served basis. The wheelchair cannot exceed a height of 40 inches, a length of 50 inches, or a width of 13 inches, and must weigh no more than 70 pounds. The wheelchair can be accepted if it can be folded or collpased to meet these dimensions.

When making your reservations, please make a request for the wheelchair to be stowed onboard. In addition, please notify our agents at the ticket counter at the time of check-in, and upon arrival at the gate area, so we can make sure the wheelchair stowage space hasn't already been assigned to another special needs passenger.

To learn more about traveling with disabilities, please feel free to visit the DOT website at www.dot.gov

I have a peanut allergy. Can Frontier provide a peanut free environment?
At Frontier, our concern is for the health and safety of all those who choose to travel with us. Although occasionally a passenger may advise a Frontier representative that he or she is allergic to a particular food, substance, or chemical, Frontier does not remove items from the aircraft. We do serve a variety of snacks on board many flights, including products that may contain peanuts or tree nuts, and therefore cannot provide "peanut-free" service to passengers. Prior to making travel plans with Frontier, we urge you to speak with your health professional regarding risks of onboard exposure to any allergen.

Does Frontier offer First Class?
We treat every passenger like a First Class traveler. However, to keep our fares affordable we offer only one class of service to all passengers.

Will I be able to use my laptop or cell phone onboard?
Welcome to the 21st Century! We're lucky to have all sorts of electronic equipment to help us communicate and keep us entertained. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has some rules that we need to stick to, as some electronic devices may interfere with our ground-to-pilot communication. Therefore, we can't allow you to use AM/FM radios, cellular/mobile phones, pagers or televisions onboard. You won't be able to access the Internet either, but you're welcome to use your laptop computer otherwise. Read the next question for our suggested alternatives to passing the time onboard.

What do you offer in terms of inflight entertainment?
We're very entertaining. You can take advantage of our DIRECTV® service*, pay-per-view movies and Disney programming* all right in front of you on your personal viewing monitor. We also provide each passenger with a complimentary copy of our inflight magazine, WILD Blue Yonder. The magazine has feature articles, games for kids and helpful information for all. Bottom line is, we'll do what we can to make time fly enjoyably!

*DIRECTV® service, pay-per-view movies and Disney programming are available for a small fee, and DIRECTV® service is free of charge for our Ascent and Summit Level passengers.

Will there be any food served on my flight?
On short flights (the ones that are basically under 90 minutes), only beverage service is available. For details on our inflight catering service, click here.

Do you charge for beer?
Beer, wine, and liquor may be purchased onboard for $6. However, our Summit Level passengers may have free alcoholic beverages on our planes.

What forms of payment do you accept for inflight purchases?
We accept credit cards only as payment for inflight purchases on Frontier Airbus flights. Use of your Frontier MasterCard or any other major credit card or debit card is accepted.

How old can my daughter be before she needs a ticket?
We know you want to hold on to that baby as long as possible, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has rules, and we must abide by them.

An infant is allowed to travel free of charge on the lap of an adult until he or she reaches his or her second birthday. Passengers with two lap children can't sit in the same side of a row, because there are only four oxygen masks per each three seats. Only one infant per paying adult is allowed to travel as a lap child. If one adult is traveling with two infants, the first infant may travel as a lap child and the second infant must be placed in his or her own seat in an approved car seat, which must have an FAA red label stating the following: "This restraint device is approved for motor vehicle and aircraft use." For reservations, please contact our Reservations Department at 800-4321-FLY (800-432-1359), as this fare can't be booked online.

Please visit our section devoted to traveling with children for more information.

Can I bring a stroller on the plane?
Strollers may be used to transport your child to the gate and then must be gate checked in the departing city. The stroller will be returned to the gate at your final destination.

My 11-year-old daughter wants to visit her aunt in San Francisco. What is the procedure for unaccompanied minors?
It's quite an adventure for a young person to travel on his or her own. We'll be there every step of the way to make sure he or she has a great experience. We consider children from ages five to 14 to be unaccompanied minors when traveling without a companion of at least 15 years of age. Children under the age of five must always be accompanied by someone 15 years or older. Children who are age 15 to 17 may also receive the benefits of an unaccompanied minor if the parent or guardian requests special supervision. These young travelers may be booked online at our website, by contacting our Reservations Department at 800-4321-FLY (800-432-1359) or with your travel agent.

For the safety of your child, we require detailed information concerning the contact and drop off persons. We charge a fee per child per flight segment, which covers having one of our staff personally accompany your child from the moment you drop him or her off with us, through handing him or her over to the designated pick-up person. The party picking up your child should bring government-issued photo identification (such as a drivers license or passport) and arrive early enough to obtain a pass to meet your child at the arrival gate. We've put together a section about unaccompanied minors and we ask that you read all the details.

How far in advance should I check in my unaccompanied child?
You'll want to leave yourself plenty of time to get your child checked in and situated, so we recommend that you check your child in two hours prior to departure. You'll need to escort your child to the gate and wait until the aircraft has departed the airfield before you leave the area. Once your child is checked in at the gate, our representative will escort him or her onboard, assist with any carry-on luggage, as well as introduce him or her to our crew. During the flight your child will receive special attention during our onboard snack service, and will have a personal escort from the aircraft to the designated pick-up party. In other words, the rock star treatment! At no point will your child be left alone during the drop-off and pickup points of contact designated in the child's reservation. Only the person listed on the unaccompanied minor's form as the designated recipient may pick up the child.

We know that the safe transport of your child is your number one concern, and we recognize the importance of that responsibility. We will to provide you and your child a safe, comfortable, and really fun experience.

Can I bring my dog on the plane? He's really nice... honest.
We'll accept pets in the cabin if the pet reservation was made prior to June 10, 2008. After that, we'll be happy to check him or her. However, we do accept service animals assisting the disabled or individuals with special needs. For details, please refer to our planning your trip section of the website. We thank you for your understanding and we promise to take great care of your pets while they're in our care.

How do I check in my pet?
Your pet will be handled with great care and will be treated as one of the family. We'll transport two animals per passenger, checked as baggage. We charge $100 dollars per animal one-way for small or medium sized kennels or $200 one-way for large and extra large sized kennels. For more details and procedures, please visit our complete section on traveling with pets.

I'm pregnant. Do I need to know anything special about traveling with you?
Congratulations! We know you want what's best for that baby, and so do we. Please check with your doctor if you intend to travel during your final weeks of pregnancy. Your doctor should be the one to guide you in your decision to fly. (And in a few months, we hope you'll visit our section called "Traveling with Children!")
