TRAVEL TIPS

traveling with children

Feel like a kid again with this "Top Ten" list of tips for traveling with kids, from our own employees - some of whom are parents too!

#10 - We offer kid-friendly shows, DIRECTV®service, movies and Disney programming, all right in front of your seat! It's one of the best ways we know of to keep your child entertained.

#9 - Leave plenty of time before boarding the plane to visit the restrooms in the airport terminal. Many airports now have family restrooms with lots of room and are equipped with changing tables. Most airplane lavatories are small and have few amenities, so encourage everyone in the family to think ahead.

#8 - Bring plenty of items to keep your child occupied. Books, crayons and something to cuddle are among our favorites. Consider bringing toys and games that are new to your child. Present them as a gift for being such a great traveler. Everyone likes gifts!
NOTE: Passengers with remote control toys may be selected for additional screening by TSA. While not associated with a specific threat at this time, TSA is aware that remote control toys can be used to initiate devices used in terrorist attacks. Accordingly, Transportation Security Officers have trained on this possibility and travelers may encounter additional screening when bringing remote control devices in carry-on baggage.

#7 - Keep any prescription or over-the-counter medications with you in your carry-on bag. If your child has a cold, ear infection or any respiratory condition, please check with a doctor prior to flying. If your child is congested, take-offs and landing can be painful. Also, bring some "just in case" medicine along.

#6 - Little ears are very sensitive, and cabin pressure changes during takeoff and landing can be uncomfortable. We suggest you offer your child something to nurse or suck on, such as a baby bottle, pacifier or lollipop, to induce swallowing and facilitate popping his or her ears.

#5 - If you're planning on using a car seat, ask the flight attendant for a lap extender belt. It will save you lots of time and a big headache when you try to buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt for the car seat.

#4 - Be prepared with a change of clothes for your child. Don't forget the wet wipes!

#3 - Travel with light snacks, such as crackers. Keep spillage issues in mind, so pack snacks in spill-proof, re-sealable and non-breakable containers.

#2 - Whenever possible, schedule your flight during times that your child usually is sleeping.
