Check-In Requirements

First order of business: Let us know you're here. With increased security measures in place throughout the nation, we recommend all travelers arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to departure time. You and your baggage must be checked in no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and no later than one hour prior to departure for international flights. Some airports have a 45 minute check-in cutoff. Please go to Airport & Terminal info for these exceptions. Passengers must be at the gate 20 minutes prior to departure for flights operated by Frontier Airlines for boarding or reservations are subject to cancellation. Frankly, we'd much rather have you sitting at the gate a little longer than have you miss your flight.

If you want to be ahead of the game, use online check-in before you even get to the airport. Otherwise, please check in curbside or at a self-service kiosk (if it's available at your departure airport) or stop by our ticket counter within the terminal. You'll be asked for your flight itinerary, appropriate documents and valid photo identification. Our Customer Service representatives will assist you with any baggage you're checking, answer any questions you may have, and will provide you with a valid boarding pass.

Remember that you'll need a valid boarding pass and a photo ID to get through the Security area. You can obtain a boarding pass one of the following ways:
  • Check-in online and print the boarding pass
  • Go to our ticket counter at the airport
  • Use curbside check-in (if it's available in your departure city)
  • Use the self-service check-in kiosks at DIA or Washington DC-Reagan National

Notice of Overbooking of Flights

Frontier flights may be overbooked, and there is a slight chance that a seat will not be available on a flight for which a person has a confirmed reservation. If the flight is overbooked, no one will be denied a seat until airline personnel first ask for volunteers willing to give up their reservation in exchange for a payment of the airline's choosing. If there are not enough volunteers, the airline will deny boarding to persons in accordance with its particular boarding priorities that are available at all airport ticket counters and boarding locations.

What can you take onboard? What do you need to check?

On December 18, 2008, Frontier introduced a new way to purchase tickets called "AirFairs." You now have the ability to purchase travel that includes the amenities you need or want. The table below shows the three AirFair ticket types available and the baggage allowance for each. To determine which fare type is best for your trip, check out our AirFairs tutorial that will ask you a few simple questions to point you in the right direction.

NOTE: Tickets purchased prior to December 18, 2008 are defaulted to Economy AirFairs for baggage purposes. Summit, Ascent and AirTran A+ Elite passengers get two free bags even if purchasing an Economy ticket.

In addition to checked bags, each passenger may take one piece of carry-on baggage and a personal item, such as a handbag or small tote. The total dimensions of your carry-on bag can't be more than a total of 49 inches (not to exceed 9.5" height + 15.5" width + 24" length) and it can't weigh more than 35 pounds on flights operated by Frontier Airlines. Baggage fees may vary when traveling on codeshare flights operated by another carrier. Please refer to the operating carrier's website or reservations department for more information.

Excess Baggage Charges

An excess charge will be assessed for each piece of checked baggage over any allowance based on fare type and for each piece of oversized or overweight baggage for flights operated by Frontier Airlines. Charges are assessed for each maximum exceeded. Fees may apply to special items such as bicycles, antlers, dry ice, etc. Refer to the Baggage Chart online for details. Passengers connecting to other airlines from Frontier may check baggage if an agreement between carriers exists. Baggage fees are based on one-way travel regardless of itinerary.
